TED TALKS

As extra research I decided to go back to the drawing board and look at a few of the TED Talks that we were shown earlier in the module. I came across a playlist of 10 videos all glorifying the use visual data.

The link is as follows;

http://www.ted.com/playlists/56/making_sense_of_too_much_data.html

Chris Jordan – Turning Powerful Stats into Art; by working with powerful stats and experimenting with scale, Jordan reinforces the story using scale as a shock factor. This approach is really effective and leaves the audience gripped.

I also used youtube to find further research, I came across this video that stresses the use  of data visualisation to clarify a narrative and present information. The link is below;

The Art of Data Visualisation; Featuring Edward Tufte, Julie Steele, Josh Smith, Jer Thorpe. Expresses the importance to challenge viewers to find personal meaning from a sea of information, a task that is increasingly present in everyday information-infused lives.

By looking over these video’s it pushed me to understand that I must hook onto a specific topic in order to progress in my development. I have been struggling to pin-point a particular topic to expand on and develop, these video’s have reinforced the importance of this in order to progress. As a result, I now know i need to find a particular set of data and immerse myself in the topic to discover different ways of displaying it.
